Fremantle's historic Elder's Wool Stores are set to become a hot new real estate development with plans for a mixed residential-commercial space with hopes for development plans to be ready within the year. Hesperia reportedly purchased the building for $6.85 million last week and hope to develop the building in line with some of the more sought after Fremantle real estate found in the West End. Cantonment Street is seeing other major developments with current works underway to redevelop the Woolstores Shopping Centre just a little closer to the heart of Fremantle.
The Fremantle council had opened the site to larger development, allowing for extra height in the design. However, Hesperia has suggested that they are not looking to extend the building past the existing structure.
The Wool Stores building has considerable social significance having been empty for the best part of the last four decades.
